New Horizons ...
Lighting the Way to Independence for Over 70 Years!
New Horizons of Northwest Florida, Inc. is an established local organization with a new name! Originating in 1942 as the Northwest Florida Crippled Children’s Association, its original purpose was to serve polio victims. The American Legion Auxiliary, Unit #33, saw a need and responded by starting a home and has been a continued supporter ever since.
From the beginning, the organization has been serving physically challenged people in our community. These services have grown to include habilitation training by licensed occupational, physical and speech therapists – all personalized to the needs of each client. New Horizons’ 24-hour staff consists of RNs, LPNs, Qualified Mental Retardation Professionals, a Social Worker, Direct Care, and Auxiliary staff.
In 1980, the established Crippled Children’s Home on Avery Street was relocated to its present Northview Community site at 10050 Hillview Drive, Pensacola, FL, 32514. Since then, with the community’s help, the Emerald Coast Workshop (day program) and both Kingsfield and Vera Manor group homes were added to help meet the individual needs of this growing population.
